I learned this trade working beside older finishers who cared more about the prep than the finish, and that stuck with me. I started out pouring walkways and steps for neighbors on weekends, went full time after a few years of that, and we've been in business as Heartland Boston Concrete Company since 2017. Most of our calls still come from homeowners and small property owners in Boston and the cities around it, and we still work the way we did for those neighbors, with plain answers and a site left clean.
What's under the concrete matters more to me than what's on top, because that's what decides how it holds up. When a budget gets tight, the base is the first thing people want to trim, since nobody sees it once the slab is poured, and I'll try to talk you out of it. A nice broom finish, the light texture that keeps a slab from getting slick, won't save a driveway sitting on loose dirt, so if money has to come out somewhere, I'd rather it come off the extras than the ground underneath.
